Powerwall+ inverter has rainwater dripping in after storms

Rainwater gets into the Powerwall+ inverter after storms, coming down the conduit from the roof, sometimes with a loud cooling fan and solar dropping to zero for minutes. This page covers what to check first and the cause behind it.

What to check first

  1. After rain, look for water coming into the inverter's top port from the conduit that runs down from the roof.
  2. Note whether the inverter's cooling fan runs loudly for most of the day, and whether solar drops to 0 kW for several minutes at a time.
  3. Take pictures of any water that has drained into the inverter and send them to Tesla.
  4. Ask Tesla or your installer to inspect the conduit run from the roof and the fittings along it.
