Powerwall Gateway local web login stops working after an update
After a firmware update, the Powerwall gateway's local web page won't let you log in, times out, or sends you to the Tesla One app. This page covers what the error message means, what to check first, and the cause behind it.
Error codes that go with this problem
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| Error: unexpected request origin | The gateway refuses a password change because you are not connected to the gateway's own Wi-Fi network. |
What to check first
- Try the gateway's local address with http instead of https. If it loads, the browser forcing https was the problem.
- To change the gateway password, connect directly to the gateway's own Wi-Fi network, change the password there, then log in.
- Wiring the gateway to Ethernet instead of relying on its Wi-Fi has been the most reliable way to get the local page loading again.
- Tools such as Powerwall Dashboard and NetZero kept working through the API after the local page stopped.
- Tesla blocked or removed local access on purpose in some updates, such as 1.21.0 and 25.10.4. If the local address now sends you to the Tesla One app, there is nothing on the gateway to repair.
