Powerwall app power readings wrong or don't match the meter

The power readings in the Tesla app are wrong, swing wildly, read zero, or don't match the utility meter or another monitor. This page covers what the codes mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.

Error codes that go with this problem

CodeWhat it means
Load Meter Fault, or the warning Load meter may be configured incorrectlyThe Gateway's load meter readings look wrong. The warning shows as a yellow triangle on the Gateway's local page. The fault has been seen when the Powerwalls are full and solar is high.
IEEE1547Trip, PCH_a014_basicAcChecksUV or PCH_a078_VFTripsUVTesla One diagnostics logged a grid-protection trip, a failed AC undervoltage check, or a voltage and frequency undervoltage trip.

What to check first

  1. Compare the app with the utility meter at the same times, and the app's solar figure with the solar inverter's own display or a separate monitor.
  2. Turn a large load you know the size of on and off, such as the EV charger or a pool pump, and watch whether the app's home usage changes by about that much.
  3. Check the account on a second phone or reinstall the app. If both show the same numbers, the app itself is not the problem.
  4. If home and grid readings swing while Charge on Solar is charging the car, try starting the car's charging only once the Powerwall is full.
  5. In the UK, if the supplier records far more grid use than the app, or the smart meter shows a steady export while the Powerwall shows 0 W to the grid, compare the two and raise it with the supplier.
  6. If the readings still don't match, call the installer or Tesla. Tesla support can correct some meter settings remotely; others need a site visit.
