SolarEdge system backfeeds or won't run on a backup generator
Your backup generator was damaged while running during an outage, or your SolarEdge inverter won't run properly on generator power. This page covers what to check first and the causes behind it.
What to check first
- Don't use a generator to stand in for the grid to make the inverter run. The inverter follows the grid and won't run correctly on generator power.
- Ask your installer how the generator is connected: through which transfer switch or interlock, and on which side of it the SolarEdge system is wired.
- Call your installer if the generator was damaged while it ran during an outage.
Safety. A solar and battery system wired the wrong way to a generator can push power into it while it runs and destroy it. Home generators typically have no reverse current protection.
