SolarEdge SetApp commissioning or optimizer pairing won't complete

Setting up a new or replacement SolarEdge inverter or battery stops partway: optimizers won't all pair, a battery won't associate, or the app shows an error. This page covers what the lights and codes mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.

What the lights mean

What you seeWhat it means
Blue light onThe inverter is connected to SolarEdge's monitoring servers.
Green light on, no blue light underneathOn inverters without a screen: the inverter has power but is not connected to SolarEdge's monitoring servers.
Lights flash blue, green and red in turnA firmware update from a USB stick is in progress.
Flashing green and flashing blueAC is connected but the inverter is not producing, and its connection to monitoring comes and goes. Seen after a power surge, an outage or an interrupted firmware update.

Error codes that go with this problem

CodeWhat it means
Label or nameplate selection mismatch (SolarEdge Go)The power-class sticker on the inverter does not match the power class chosen in SolarEdge Go during setup.
Running script, then done (inverter screen)The activation card is being processed. Done means activation is complete.
RSD Error 18xC7 (inverter screen)Reported as an RSD error during a do-it-yourself setup of an off-grid system. SolarEdge's guide lists no codes starting 18xC.

What to check first

  1. Look at the inverter's lights. A blue light that stays on means the inverter is reaching SolarEdge's servers. If it is not on all the time, the inverter is not communicating.
  2. After the optimizers start pairing, give it time: about 180 seconds for pairing, then about five minutes before production starts. Don't press any button while it is detecting.
  3. If the inverter screen shows running script, wait for done. Done means activation finished.
  4. If commissioning errors out every time it reaches the firmware update step, ask for a service visit. If a new battery reads 0% right after pairing, shut the system down and re-pair it; an owner who did this saw it charge normally the next sunny day.
