SolarEdge battery won't charge or discharge

Your SolarEdge battery stops charging or discharging, sits at a fixed percentage, or throttles to nothing, and solar goes to the grid instead. This page covers what the lights and codes mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.

What the lights mean

What you seeWhat it means
Solid red and blinking blue light on the batterySeen along with a Battery Not Communicating warning in the app or error 3x6B in the log.

Error codes that go with this problem

CodeWhat it means
3x6B, or Battery Not Communicating in the appBattery Communication Error. The battery has stopped communicating with the inverter.

What to check first

  1. Look at what the app shows for the battery: the charge or discharge power, whether the percentage is still updating, and any Battery Not Communicating warning.
  2. Note whether it started after a power cut, a fuse trip, or a manual power-down and restart.
  3. If the battery's output drops as it gets hot, or it won't charge in a cold early morning, wait and see whether it resumes once it cools down or warms up. What counts is the battery's own internal temperature, not the outside air.
  4. Power cycle the whole system and let the inverter re-sync with the battery. Cycling the battery alone has not brought it back.
  5. If the fuses tripped, use this order: DC off at the inverter, wait 10 minutes, AC off, battery off. Then turn the inverter back on before the battery.
  6. If the battery is still stuck or not communicating after a full restart, call your installer.
