Enphase IQ Battery won't power on or is found dead after install

An Enphase IQ Battery stays dark and won't power on, or is found drained after install while the site waits to be switched on. This page covers what the lights mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.

What the lights mean

What you seeWhat it means
Battery LED off (IQ Battery 3T and 10T)The battery is not operating.
Battery LED flashing yellow rapidly (IQ Battery 5P)The battery is starting up and establishing communication.
Battery LED flashing red in sequences of two (IQ Battery 3T and 10T)The battery has an error.
Battery LED solid yellow (IQ Battery 3T and 10T)The battery is not operating because its internal temperature is high.
Battery LED flashing red after a system restartThe battery is not yet getting 240 V from the System Controller. It turns green once the controller's relays close and grid voltage reaches it.
IQ Battery 10C blinking red after its power button is heldThe battery is going through its shutdown sequence, which takes up to 45 seconds. Pressing the button again interrupts it.
Red in the small window on a battery-to-microinverter DC connectorThat DC connector is not fully connected. A fully seated connector shows white.
DC disconnect LED flashing redThe battery's DC disconnect switch is disengaged. The battery cannot charge or discharge until it is switched on, when the LED goes solid green.

What to check first

  1. Look at the battery's LED. Note whether it is off, its colour, and whether it flashes, and compare it with the light table above.
  2. If the system has just been restarted, give it 10 to 15 minutes. A battery LED flashing red then is waiting for power from the System Controller and turns green once it arrives.
  3. If the battery's DC disconnect LED flashes red, the switch is disengaged and the battery can't charge or discharge. Ask your installer to switch it on.
  4. If your IQ Battery 10C is new and the site is still waiting for permission to operate, ask your installer whether its DC connectors were unplugged. A 10C left plugged in on such a site can drain until it can't recover.
  5. Call your installer if the battery LED stays off. Finding where the power is lost means measuring voltage inside the System Controller and at the battery.
