Enphase app shows battery or System Controller not reporting

The Enphase app or Installer Portal shows a battery or the System Controller as not reporting, or shows Grid Mode Unknown. This page covers what the lights and messages mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.

What to check first

  1. Look at the battery's LED. Note whether it is on, its colour, and whether it flashes, and compare it with the light table above.
  2. Look at the battery's DC disconnect LED. If it flashes red, the switch is disengaged and the battery can't charge or discharge. Ask your installer to switch it on.
  3. Look at the gateway's network LED. If it is off or solid red, the gateway is not reaching Enphase. Once it reconnects it sends the data it stored in the meantime.
  4. Note when the battery drops off, whether it comes back on its own, and how long it stays away. A dropout at the same time every day is worth telling your installer about.
  5. If it started right after the gateway was replaced or restarted, tell your installer.
  6. Call your installer if a battery or the System Controller stays not reporting. After more than 12 hours without the System Controller, the system stays grid-tied and the battery stops charging and discharging.
