EG4 system won't restart or recharge after the battery hits its low cutoff
After the battery hits its low cutoff or drains completely, the system stays down the next morning or when the sun returns: it won't restart, recharge, or bring the loads back. This page covers what the lights and codes mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.
What the lights mean
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| LifePower4 with no lights on after a low-voltage event | The BMS is in low-voltage protection and sleep mode. Charge it immediately, or it goes back to sleep within minutes. |
| LifePower4 deeply discharged with the RUN light on | The battery voltage is too low to start the BMS. |
| Red breaker light on a LifePower4 | Not a fault. In the case seen it just meant the breaker was on. |
| LifePower4 with all its lights on that still only trickle-charges after a full discharge | The battery has not gone back to normal charging, even after being brought back up to about 49.7 V. |
| LifePower4 alarm light on after the breaker to the inverter was closed after power-on | A short-circuit style fault that blocks any output until the breaker is switched off and on again. |
| 6000XP or 12000XP breaker light is green | Green means that breaker is open (off). Red means it is closed and live. |
Error codes that go with this problem
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| W027 or Warning 27, sometimes after W000 and W026 | Battery open: battery voltage under 40 V; check it with a multimeter and check all wiring. W000 is lost communication with the battery. W026 is battery voltage nearing its low limit. |
What to check first
- Find each battery's internal breaker, including under any screwed-on cover, and see whether it has tripped open.
- Check what the battery's breaker light means before treating it as a fault. On a LifePower4, a red breaker light turned out to just mean the breaker was on.
- If some batteries sit idle after the cutoff, switch their battery or BMS breakers off and on by hand.
- If a LifePower4 shows no lights and is in low-voltage protection, charge it right away. It goes back to sleep within minutes.
- If an off-grid 6000XP stalled at the cutoff after cloudy days, power the whole system down and restart it.
- If a battery still only trickle-charges or the others sit idle, bring the batteries to the same voltage and call EG4 technical support.
