EG4 paralleled inverters or GridBOSS won't sync or fault at setup
Your paralleled EG4 inverters, or your GridBOSS and FlexBOSS21, don't recognize each other, show offline, or throw parallel faults. This page covers what the lights and codes mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.
What the lights mean
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fault and warning lights on inverters just paralleled to a GridBOSS | Nothing is broken. The inverters see each other but have not synced, so nothing outputs until System Type, GridBOSS Enable, Parallel Setting Data Sync and Share Battery are set. |
| Battery status icon not flashing a minute after power-up on a paralleled 6500EX-48 | That unit has not set up battery communication. |
| Green Wi-Fi light blinking about twice a second on a dongle in the GridBOSS, with no network to join | The dongle never broadcasts its setup network, even though its serial and PIN were registered. The owner suspected a faulty dongle; it was not resolved. |
Error codes that go with this problem
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| W030: Grid Boss CAN Loss | Parallel communication between a FlexBOSS and its GridBOSS was lost. It has been traced to the 120-ohm termination DIP switches on the parallel ports being off. |
| Para Gen in Accord or Para Phase set error | The generator is connected to some paralleled inverters and not others, or the phase is set wrong. The phase error clears once correct wiring lets the system detect the phase order. |
| Error 61 (6000EX or 6500EX-48) | The inverter has lost or never set up communication with the battery. On paralleled units it shows when the battery-connected unit isn't set to EG4 and the rest to USE. |
| W028 | Inverter overload: running beyond its maximum output. Paralleled 12000XPs on different, outdated firmware showed an overload fault whenever a large load started. |
What to check first
- In the app or web monitor, note whether the GridBOSS shows offline, or its page is missing inverter, battery and PV data while the inverter page looks right.
- On newly paralleled inverters, a fault and warning light doesn't mean something is broken. The inverters still need their parallel and GridBOSS settings before they sync and output.
- Note any code on the inverter screens, such as W030, Para Gen in Accord or Para Phase set error, and whether a firmware update came just before.
- Check that the FlexBOSS is not set to Off Grid mode. In that mode it can't see the GridBOSS.
- On a FlexBOSS21, Grid Boss Enable isn't in the phone app. In a desktop browser, check it is on for each inverter under Maintenance, Advanced Settings.
- If the units still don't sync, it needs a technician to check the communication cables, the DIP switches and the 120-ohm termination switches on the parallel ports.
