EG4 new install powers up but the loads panel gets no power
A new EG4 install powers up and the inverter looks fine, but nothing reaches the backup loads panel. This page covers what the lights and codes mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.
What the lights mean
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Grid, load or generator breaker light green on a 6000XP or 12000XP | The circuit is open (off). Red means the circuit is closed and working. |
| LifePower4 alarm light on at start-up | The battery was switched on with its breaker to the inverter open and the breaker was closed afterwards. This short-circuit-style fault blocks any output until that breaker is switched off and on. |
| Yellow fault light on a 12000XP with the wiring correct | Seen when a third-party battery's management board was sending a CAN protocol the inverter doesn't recognise, left on its default instead of Lux Power. |
| Fault and warning lights after a second inverter is added to a GridBOSS system | The inverters see each other but haven't synced voltage and frequency, so no relays close and nothing outputs until System Type, GridBOSS Enable, Parallel Setting Data Sync and Share Battery are set. |
Error codes that go with this problem
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| W000 or Warning 00 | Communication failure with the battery: the inverter is not getting CAN or RS485 data from it. |
| Bat com failure or battery communication error on an 18kPV | The inverter fails to communicate with the battery. |
| Error 61 on a 6000EX or 6500EX-48 | The inverter has lost, or never set up, communication with the battery bank's management system. |
| Error 20, often together with Error 4 | Error 20 is a communication problem between a LifePower4 and the inverter. Error 4 is battery low voltage. Both appear when the battery comm cable is unplugged. |
What to check first
- Look at the grid, load and generator breaker lights on a 6000XP or 12000XP. Green means the circuit is off and red means it is on and working. Turn on any breaker showing green.
- If a LifePower4 was switched on with its breaker to the inverter open and that breaker was closed afterwards, switch the breaker off and on again.
- On a 6000XP running from battery, check whether Eco Mode (Green Mode) is on. It drops the output to near zero when the load is below about 60 watts.
- If the inverter shows 0% battery or a battery communication code, check the battery comm cable is fully plugged in at both ends and is in the CAN port, not the RS485 port.
- If the inverter display shows grid power, such as 242 V at 60 Hz, but the backup loads panel is dead, ask your installer to check any external generator interlock kit. The panel only gets inverter power with its lever on the inverter side.
