EG4 inverter sends power to the grid with export disabled

An EG4 inverter or GridBOSS set not to export still puts a small amount of power onto the grid, or the utility detects power coming back from the system. This page covers what to check first and the cause behind it.

What to check first

  1. Ask your installer whether Off-Grid Mode is enabled. EG4 says that with it disabled, brief import or export can happen while the inverter catches up with a large load or production swing.
  2. Compare the export the EG4 monitor shows with whether the utility has ever flagged it. If the utility never reacts, the displayed export is more likely a reporting error than real backfeed.
  3. Ask your installer whether the inverter runs current firmware. Signature Solar's support team said updates fixed a small export from the 18kPV with sellback disabled; the owner who had it never confirmed that.
  4. If even brief export is not acceptable, EG4 says enabling Off-Grid Mode is the only way to prevent any grid use.
