EG4 inverter is dead, stuck in standby, or arrives faulty
The EG4 inverter has no display and no sign of power, sits in standby with no output, or a new unit arrives with something visibly wrong. This page covers what the lights and codes mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.
What the lights mean
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| 6000XP red fault light with code 00 and no power | A fault. On one 6000XP it was cleared by correcting a firmware update that had not downloaded properly. |
| All lights solid on a LifePower4 after power or the cable dropped during a firmware update | The battery is stuck in a failed-update state. Re-running the automatic updater recovers it. |
| Second green light blinking on the LifePower4 automatic updater | The updater is writing firmware. A normal update takes about 60 seconds and a recovery about 2 minutes. |
| A single green light and no screen on a battery after an update with EG4's firmware adapter | The RS485 firmware upload failed, even if the adapter reported success. |
| Fault light on the Battery Firmware Adapter | The RS485 firmware update attempt did not complete. |
| Battery's normal light flashing during an over-the-air firmware update | The update is still running, not a fault. It can take 5 to 10 minutes after the progress bar reads 100% before the inverter finishes. |
| Only one of the two internal module lights lit, seen through a Chargeverter's back grill | That module isn't working, so the Chargeverter charges at 50 A instead of 100 A. |
| 6000XP or 12000XP breaker light is green | Green means that breaker is open (off). Red means it is closed and live. |
Error codes that go with this problem
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| M3 Rx failure | The M3 processor is not receiving data from the DSP. |
| E017 | Internal communication fault 2. |
| Update Failed (Monitoring Center) | A firmware update stage failed. The update may need more than one attempt. The alert shows only in the Monitoring Center, not on the inverter screen. |
What to check first
- On a 6000XP or 12000XP, look at the breaker lights. Green means that breaker is open (off) and red means it is closed and live.
- If a battery update is running over the air, give it time. It can take 5 to 10 minutes after the progress bar reads 100% before the inverter finishes.
- If a firmware update fails in the Monitoring Center, try it again. The manual says it may need more than one attempt.
- After an interrupted LifePower4 update, power the battery off and back on. If all its lights come on solid, it is in a failed-update state.
- If the inverter stays dead, it goes back under warranty through the distributor to EG4. If the distributor is slow or won't help, EG4 support can step in to arrange an advance replacement.
Safety. An accidental short across the battery inputs and a PV wire arcing to a grounded roof have both damaged inverters inside. With shorted battery inputs, the batteries go into protection or trip their breakers when connected.
