EG4 Chargeverter won't charge the battery or shows State of Charge Lost
The EG4 Chargeverter won't charge the battery, or its screen shows State of Charge Lost. This page covers what the lights and codes mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.
What the lights mean
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Chargeverter shows Charge Verter 1 | The generator's cool-down period after charging stops, roughly 2 to 4 minutes, before the generator is told to shut off. Charge Verter 0 is normal operation. |
Error codes that go with this problem
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| State of Charge Lost or SOC lost (Chargeverter-GC screen) | The Chargeverter is not getting a valid charge reading over its RS485 cable: no cable is connected, or the cable goes to a battery that is not set up and addressed for communication. |
What to check first
- Look at the Chargeverter screen after its RS485 battery cable is connected. SOC lost means no valid charge reading is coming from that battery.
- Note whether the Chargeverter shows its set voltage but delivers zero output current.
- Check whether the battery has separate CAN and RS485 ports or only one RS485 port. A single RS485 port can talk to only the Chargeverter or the inverter at a time.
- Before plugging a Chargeverter Plus into a standard wall outlet, lower the charge-amperage setting in its menu. At its default rate it pulls over 1,800 W and trips the breaker.
Safety. The Chargeverter's DC quick connectors are not keyed and can be plugged in backwards, so check polarity before mating them, and don't connect or disconnect them while it is under load.
