EG4 charge voltage stays at bulk and never drops to float
On an EG4 inverter charging in open loop, the battery voltage reaches bulk and stays there, or keeps going back up, instead of dropping to float. This page covers what to check first and the causes behind it.
What to check first
- Check whether the inverter charges in open loop, with the battery type set to lead-acid and charging by voltage.
- Watch the battery voltage after it reaches the bulk setting. Note whether it stays at bulk for the rest of the day, or drops to float and then keeps going back up.
- Note whether the output to your loads blinks off for about 30 seconds when the batteries reach end of charge, and whether anything shows in the warning log.
- If a generator does the charging, note whether it cycles on and off near the end of charge.
- Note the inverter model and its firmware version.
