EG4 battery SOC drops suddenly to 0%, stalls, or differs between batteries

The EG4 battery's charge reading drops suddenly to 0%, stalls short of full, or differs between batteries in the same bank. This page covers what the lights and codes mean, what to check first, and the causes behind it.

What the lights mean

What you seeWhat it means
LifePower4 ALM light flashes 20 times with the SOC1 light onUnbalanced voltage within a cell.
LifePower4 with no lights on after running lowThe BMS is in low-voltage protection and sleep mode. Charge it at once or it will go back to sleep within minutes.
LifePower4 deeply discharged with the RUN light onThe battery voltage is too low to start the BMS.
280Ah WallMount display shows 100% with RUN blinking while still listed as chargingSeen on the 280Ah batteries in a WallMount bank with a 314Ah battery, before the communication chain between the batteries was fixed.
Yellow fault light on a 12000XPNo battery communication, even with the wiring correct.

Error codes that go with this problem

CodeWhat it means
W000 or Warning 00Communication failure with the battery. The battery is not receiving CAN or RS485 data.
Bat com failure or battery communication error (18kPV)The inverter can't communicate with the battery.
Error 20 together with Error 4 (LifePower4 batteries)Error 20 is a communication problem between the LifePower4 battery and the inverter. Error 4 is battery low voltage. Both appear when the battery comm cable is unplugged.
Error 61 (6000EX and 6500EX-48)The inverter has lost, or never set up, communication with the battery bank.

What to check first

  1. Compare the charge readings of all the batteries in the bank, in the app or on the inverter screen, and note how far apart they are.
  2. Look at each battery's voltage as well as its percentage. The percentage alone can be wrong.
  3. Note the inverter's setting for when to stop discharging, such as 20%, and whether the batteries still ran down to 0%.
  4. Check whether the batteries regularly charge to 100%, or are set to stop around 80%.
  5. On the monitor graph, check whether the battery is still drawing charge current when the reading stops rising below 100%.
  6. Ask your installer to check the battery firmware version against the versions EG4 lists as fixed: 314Ah Indoor Z03T17, 280Ah Indoor and Outdoor S02T25, LifePower4 V2 and LL-S 48V S02T34.
