Powerwall 3 install fails inspection, defects throughout
reported in the field
Symptoms
- A system that has never worked since install, a Powerwall replaced about five times without curing the unreliability, or a pre-commissioning inspection that finds: the rapid shutdown button missing or its wire pulling loose on a tug test
- No watertight fittings or straps at the Powerwall conduit entries and open knockouts
- Bare conductors out of LB fittings
- The Powerwall communication cable sharing a conduit with PV DC cable, and 600 V PV cable mixed with lower-rated cable
- AC isolators used as DC isolators
- Battery cable improvised from unglanded 4 mm PV cable with the CAN connector corroded by rain
- Connector sleeves crimped with pliers or a screwdriver
- Ferrite cores left uninstalled
- AC disconnects inside the garage instead of outside
