Gateway reports normally then silently stops reporting

Symptoms
- Gateway reports normally for a day or so after each reboot then reporting lags and stops (repeats on a cycle)
- Or reboots itself repeatedly and silently for months with no alert ever firing
- Local web UI shows raw untranslated error strings
- A firmware/software update download hangs indefinitely or corrupts the local database
- One very old Envoy-R could not even accept the firmware update needed to finish commissioning because its firmware predated Wi-Fi/AP support
